These were second hand when I got them, so I can't guarantee that they are pet free. I have cleaned them with hot water and soap and there is no lingering smell of anything. Some items have been *painted*, so please take note of that. You could remove the paint with nail polish remover, but please do so carefully as you can ruin the plastic if you use too much. Do not leave the items in a bowl of polish remover, it will destroy them :(
