This is clearly a collector's ANTIQUE piece and quite scarce. The ample space inside the Box suggests it is existed as a very useful object, once used to carry tobacco.
A hard-to-find collector’s item in this size and in great condition.
Hand-carved of beautiful indigenous wood, originating from the island of Lombok in Indonesia.
The top of this tribal box is carved from water buffalo HORN and the bottom a beautiful honey-colored traditional wood. The carving is skillfully done and the top fits smoothly on the bottom.
There are new copies of this item, but they can be identified by their lack of patina on the wood. The item has a beautiful, warm patina from age. It was a gift from a collector of antiquities.
This high and beautiful quality of workmanship would have been expensive in Indonesia.
