The history of Palace Dolls spans back over 400 years in Japan. They were given by emperors to members of the Imperial Court often at the turn of the New Year. The baby boy taking his first steps represents health and prosperity, and the dog is said to symbolize virility
This Gosho was made in the early 20th Century, within the prestigious Kyoto Ceramics Industry Association, in the heart of craftsmanship of the renowned Kiyomizu-yaki pottery
This sculpture stands 6.5 inches (16.51 cm) tall, is 7 inches (17.78 cm) wide, and is 4.5 inches (11.43 cm) in depth
The condition of this figurine is remarkable for its age and circumstances, having been crafted around the WWII era. There are no discernible cracks or chips in the pottery itself. The Gofun paint has rubbing and chipping in spots.
