This fiery chimera is beautifully sculpted with elegant wings and finely detailed scales that shield its dramatically curving body. He is the perfect diminutive gargoyle to protect a wearer's lapel against evil spirits and lurking malefactors. Created by Link & Angell in Sterling silver, circa 1900. Victorian jewelers were inspired by a menagerie of exotic and fantastic creatures. Fierce dragons, basilisks and griffins all graced the elegant jewels of the era. This stickpin is an especially beautiful example. The reverse of the stickpin is as well crafted as the front. The maker's mark of Link & Angell ("L & A" in three links of a chain) is stamped on the reverse beneath the Sterling purity mark.”
